position: absolute
positions the element relative to the nearest parent — which in previous weeks was the parent container, with position: relative
applied to it — however, in the absence of a parent container, absolute positioning will just use the document body itself!
Fixed positioning means that no matter how much you scroll the document the element remains fixed and doesn’t move, vs absolute positioning where it does move along as the document is scrolled.
In short:
position: fixed
: places the element relative to the viewport. ie. it doesn't move when scrolled.position: relative
: places the element anywhere on the page relative to itself — which in most cases doesn’t change the positioning — but any child elements with absolute positioning will attach to this parent element rather than the document.position: absolute
: places the element on the page relative to its parent or the document.A place for you to post notes about anything on this page. Only you can view your notes.
