We are looking for an experienced Web Developer. You will work within our development team to add and improve on features and to help build brand new products that we're working on.
SuperHi’s mission is to make creative education, better designed. We give the creative and curious the tools and techniques to bring their ideas and work to life online.
We teach practical skills in code, design, and project management in a real-world way. We're proud that our current students are 51% female, 1% non-binary, and 48% male from a wide range of backgrounds and over 90 countries, and we have one of the highest Net Promoter Score (currently: 92) of any online business in the world.
We’re a proudly remote team with people located in the US, UK, Sweden, Portugal and Hong Kong. As a company, we are a fast-growing, profitable(!) startup and are backed by some of the world's top VCs.
As part of this role, you will...
Develop and deliver high quality products that improve the experience of current and future students
Write clean, efficient, scalable and easily maintainable code
Contribute to quality activities such as reviews of designs and code
Meet regularly with the development team to plan upcoming work and be part of shaping internal development processes
Provide input to scoping for the projects that you're involved in
Maintain documentation for code and projects
Support the Education team in helping and mentoring students
This role is mid-level (no minimum to the number of years of experience). In addition to being based in Europe (time zones UTC-2 to UTC+2), you could be a good fit if you have:
A thorough knowledge of Javascript, in-particular ES6+
A strong understanding of TypeScript and React
Strong communication and written English skills
Excellent attention to detail, so much so that your application should include the word *durian* somewhere
Experience with the Javascript ecosystem, including tools and libraries such as Webpack, NPM, Yarn, ESLint, Prettier & Jest
Experience with GraphQL
Experience with CSS-in-JS libraries (like Styled Components)
Experience with services like GitHub, AWS, Heroku
Experience with Elixir
Experience writing test-driven code
Competitive salary
Health, dental and vision insurance for US-based employees
Stipend to get a workspace local to you if you prefer not to work at home after lockdown
Paid sick and vacation days
Company provided equipment (laptop, screen, standing desk, software, etc)
Annual education budget
Annual work together budget
Annual health + fitness budget
We want you to meet with a variety of people from different teams, and get a sense of what it’s like to work together. This means our interview process takes a bit more time than most places so we can get to know each other.
Our first interview is a conversational-style interview. The best way to prepare for this is to spend some time reflecting on all of the experiences you've had and the things you've done to bring you to the point you're at today. No need to swot up on anything, it's more of a two-sided conversation than us "grilling" you.
Next, you will receive a test. It won't be a long test, just a couple of hours maximum, and you will be fairly paid for your time.
Next you will meet several members of the team so you get to know the people you could be working with, and the problems they’re currently solving.
We make a decision after collecting lots of diverse feedback from various team members. The hiring team will take the time to meet, and come back to you with a decision.
As part of this role, you will be mostly working closely with:
Chris Lawrence (Senior Developer)
Ryan Smith (Senior Developer)
Liz Wells (Senior Product Designer)
Along with the rest of the SuperHi team, external teachers and designers, and the whole of the SuperHi community!
We know companies say this (and sometimes don't mean it) but we are a 100% equal opportunities employer. We welcome anyone from any gender, race, sexuality, ability, background, age, etc. to apply. Diversity and inclusion is incredibly important to SuperHi. Our students come from all walks of life and our team should reflect that too.
Meet the team & learn about why we do what we do.
